University Fernando Pessoa (UFP), established by the Fernando Pessoa Teaching and Culture Foundation (FFP) and recognized in the public interest by Decree-Law no. 107/96, of July 31, is the result of an innovative higher education project, Which began in the 1980s through the Higher Institute of Information and Enterprise Sciences and the Erasmus Institute for Higher Education, which served as a structuring foundation and whose seniority of degrees and diplomas has been inherited under the terms of Article 7 of that decree.
Under the motto Nova et Nove (to innovate in knowledge and methods of teaching), the UFP aims to teach, research, community extension and provide services in the fields of training offered by its current scientific-pedagogical structure:
– Faculty of Science and Technology (Porto)
– Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (Porto)
– Faculty of Health Sciences and School of Health (Porto)
– Unit of Ponte de Lima, also with School of Health
UFP’s full time academic staff is composed of 235 teachers and more than 80% of them hold a PhD. UFP’s R&D policy is organized into two multidisciplinary centers: the FP-ENAS – UFP Research Unit on Energy, Environment and Health and the FP-B2S – Research Center in Behavior and Social Sciences.
In 4th December 2012, the School-Hospital of University Fernando Pessoa was inaugurated, and currently has a 24-hour (SAP) service for children and adults, and all clinical and surgical specializations, as well as nursing, physiotherapy, psychology, nutrition, speech therapy, psychomotricity and non-conventional therapies.
The School-Hospital is a 200 beds health unity which makes University Fernando Pessoa the only private university in Portugal to be self-sufficient in the clinical training of its current students ensuring all technical conditions and legal requirements.
